Fashion Research

For Fashion Research material, I was recommended http://www.thesartorialist.com/ by a Gender Fashion expert.
The website displays street snap photos of real people from 2005 till today and has a very up to date feel to it.
It works well if you want to research what real people wear, how it has changed overtime or if you simply want to know what is in vogue right now.

Walton Ford

Walton Ford, Sensations of an Infant Heart, 1999, detail

I did an Apprenticeship with Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2010. One day we were invited to the press release of Walton Ford's Exhibition. He was there himself, humble and humorous - explaining all the true stories behind his works.
The work above originates from a story about John James Audubon whose parrot was strangled by his stepmother's pet monkey.

I was "sold" by his extreme talent and the weirdness of the stories and promptly went to the Taschen Book Store in Copenhagen to buy a signed copy of Taschen's book on Walton Ford called Pancha Tantra. He is now one of my favourite artists.

PBS made a documentary on Walton Ford which is worth watching.

Memphis Design Group

Memphis is my favourite design group these days. I did my Masters thesis about them with a special focus on leader Ettore Sottsass and find their approach clever and relevant.
Memphis only lasted 1981-1987 but their products can still be bought - and viewed on www.memphis-milano.com

Members included Mattheo Thun, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Ettore Sottsass and Marco Zanini.

Marc Jacobs Perfumes

Photo by Aemy Shamy from www.emynadira

I am a big fan of Marc Jacobs' Daisy perfume. The gardenia
and jasmine scent is pleasant and fresh and the plastic
daisy flower makes the packaging interesting and
different to other competing perfumes. The new
pink summer edition - Eau So Fresh - has
notes of raspberry and grapefruit and
is gorgeous and delicate too.
